Sex.рф in Russian: Conspiracy Tales

The best name in the new .рф Russian IDN extension is debatably секс.рф (“sex.rf”). In checking the whois, I confirmed that CETIS is the owner of the name. Sluh.biz, a Russian news site reported (translated version below):
“CETIS is a subsidiary of REG.RU, which first received permission to register domains in the zone .рф. Moreover, CEO Alexei Korolyuk was part of a working group to develop the rules of registering domain names in Russia.” These rules were published on the page designed by the CETIS webdesign studio, see the bottom of the page here.
Other names already reserved for CETIS are Кино.рф (“Movies” in Russian) and Покер.рф (“Poker” in Russian). Unfortunately, the registration processes for new IDN ccTLDs will be run by nationalistic entities that at times reserve top names for themselves or their cronies. This will further push registrants towards IDN.com, where there has been a lot more transparency in registering, and not much of a threat of a government seizing names.
See a further discussion of the .рф cronyism on IDNForums here.

That name and others they registered will all be taken away from them due to change of priority registration policy that was taken place several hours after what they did was “discovered”
(they were able to register several generics since they got a TM on them on unrelated categories to the generic meaning of the word)
The Russian and many of the Arabic cctld IDN rollouts are in for crony oriented introductions.
so it will make idn.com’s a fair arena for many.
It should be interesting to see if other country name managers use TM gamesmanship for generics as well.
It is sad that the charity PR on the rf/po auction schedule is now a sham…
